  CARERS AND HEALTH WORKERS

Alfredo, 28 years old, family doctor.

"In the last years I have realised that patients very often knew more about their conditions than me. They visited webs and they came to the doctor's office with lots of questions that sometimes left me worried because I did not know if I would be able to answer appropriately. After doing the Self-Management Trainer's course, I have learnt a lot abilities to advice the patients accurately  while making them feel more responsible about their illness and helping them when taking decisions to follow habits of healthy life. The relations with the patients is now more easy-going which makes feel very good."

Pilar, 55 years old, carer of a patient with Alzheimer.

"I am a carer of an aged patient with Alzheimer dementia. In many occasions it was very hard for me being with a handicapped person whom you see suffering. With the Expert Patient Programme I have learnt to how I can best help to this person and I would not be negatively influenced by physic and psychic tiredness which is implied when helping him."

Ana, 24 years old, nurse.

"At the emergency room I realised that many patients were stressed because they did not know to mark the rhythm of their breathing appropriately. With the Expert Patient Programme I help the patients to overcome fear and stress at emergency situations. Very often I find a change with a patient's smile which is a great pleasure for me."

Juan, 26 years old, Physiotherapist.

"I often face the problem that old people do not feel motivated enough to make exercise. With the Expert Patient Programme I have helped patients to design a personalized programme in order to increase their level step by step and also they know how to control pain when they are making it."

Luisa, 30 years old, pharmacist.

"Patients often ask me about medicines they take and I realise that many of them take too much medication and other forget to take it when they should. Since I am a trainer in Self-Management I have learnt to teach patients not to treat of something and follow the instructions of his doctor appropriately and this makes me feel good."

Alicia, 29 years old, social worker.

"With the Expert Patient Programme I have learnt to explain the patients how their family and social relationships influence on their health and the way they cope with their illness. The courses are given in many occasions at patient's associations head offices, a familiar place for the patients which makes easier the relation between the patient and the Public system and the community resources."
